Getting Ready…

We are gradually getting ready to open for those that wish to come and have Sunday lunch here in our front yard!

Opening officially for bookings on August 2nd with limited tables so please ensure you book ahead. From this week, however, you may come and collect your lunches from us, please let us know when ordering whether you wish to collect or have your order delivered.

A note on delivery charges; As of 2nd August, a small fee will be added to home deliveries to cover the costs of this service. We hope that those of you who wish to continue having your orders brought to you won’t mind the additional £3 added, helping to support not only us but also Hastings Cargo who currently run the great air pollution free service using electric cargo bikes!

Launching this Sunday is our PICNIC BOX!

Aimed at those venturing out for an afternoon on the beach or perhaps heading to the hill for a few hours in the sun after a long walk. We have carefully selected some of our favourite items and matched them with fresh salads, homemade dips and freshly baked bread, all in one handy box – available for you to come and collect as well as hot & cold drinks from the bar…

Times are a-changin…

Its been an intense time for us all and as a (very) small business we have done what we can to adapt and navigate through the storm. Whilst we continue to transition in house, we are very much focused on creating a safe (outdoor, for now) space for our customers to come to in what remains of the summer months. Please bear with us whilst we do this, we hope to be able to announce opening times soon…

Starter Box – (£7.50)

This Sundays boxes offer a choice of local chicken liver pate with gherkins or butterbean, sundried tomato & thyme pate with beetroot & feta (vegan without). Each box comes with the days freshly baked sourdough and a medley of what the veg patch has to offer. These boxes are great as a starter, a snack to share but also for a picnic.

Please do get in touch to ask about a larger sharing box for a picnic, if we have the goods we are happy to share!

Mains (£14)

This week is a local roast chicken with stuffing or “Beacon Beets Tower” (a delicious stack of balsamic roasted beetroot & red onion, sizzled leeks and pine nuts atop a bed of chickpea mash -ve) plus nut roast (ve). Each main comes with roasties, seasonal vegetables and gravy.

Its all about the CHERRIES, our trees are dishing them out generously…

Being baked this week is a cherry brownie which will be served with a cherry fool, a right treat! Vegan option also available…

Hey Pesto!

And just like that…we have Basil!

Fresh pesto being made in house this week, get yourself a jar for just £5. Stir it through pasta or rice, drizzle it over vegetables and salads or dip in bread. Its just magical! Either have it added to your Sunday lunch order for delivery or give us a call to arrange collection. Available only while stock lasts…

Starter Box £7.50 – Back for a further week due to popular demand, whipped Feta! Blended with garlic, lemon zest and fresh thyme.

This week we are offering it up with a melody of fresh peas & broad beans. A perfect marriage on our toasted sourdough!

Local roast lamb with minted redcurrant or nut roast (vegetarian and vegan options) with butternut squash. Each served with potato dauphinois (vegan option available), roasties, seasonal vegetables & gravy.

Desserts £5

Raspberry Tiramisu – (also running for a second week as its seasonal so we need to enjoy it while we can) Sherry soaked Savoiardi, vanilla Mascarpone custard and fresh local raspberries

Home grown Morello cherry Strudel – sour cherries, ground walnuts and a light flaky pastry, served with vanilla custard (vegan)

Our dedicated time is now beginning to pay off as we see our garden spring into life; offering up peas, lettuces, chard, fresh herbs and more on the way. We are so pleased to use our home grown produce in what we cook and serve and will endeavour to make it a large part of our future moving forward…

The Sunday Service…

This week’s menu is full of classics, we hope there’s something for everyone here…

Our starter boxes are perfect to share, take on a picnic or save for lunch the next day. We base the contents of the weekly box on what we have available from the garden and in store plus serve it all up with the days freshly baked bread.

This week is a homegrown basil pesto Houmous, cherry vine tomatoes, home grown lettuces and sourdough £7.50 per box.

Main courses this week are local roast beef with fresh Horseradish or Nut Roast (vegetarian and vegan options) with butternut squash puree. Each served with roasties, Yorkshire puddings, seasonal vegetables & gravy. £14

You could also try the Summer Special: Any of our main courses served with roasties, fresh Aioli (garlic mayo) & a green medley of beans & asparagus

Our in house baker creates weekly desserts (and soon cakes too) for those looking for a treat or an afternoon pick-me-up. As with all of our dishes, we design the menu around what is available locally and seasonally.

Dessert this week is Lemon Meringue Pie or an apple berry crumble with custard £5

How’s about a mid week lunch from us?

THIS WEDNESDAY (10th) we are open for lunch!

We’ll be making local chicken, bacon & leek pies plus Cheeseboard Tart (v) (a mix of mature cheddar, Stilton & Brie with slow cooked onions) both of which come with mash and home grown chard and a choice of gravy or house Aioli (garlic Mayo). There’s also a no bake savoury cheesecake (pictured above) for vegans (sunflower seed sundried tomato base, cashew cream, spinach & basil topping) which comes with a herby Millet & tomato salad and home grown lettuce.

And thats not all, we’ve also got cake and Eton Mess!

We can deliver to you (between 12-3, a small fee may be applied) OR you can come and collect from our gate. Give us a call, pay over the phone and come and grab your lunch from us at a time that suits you. The meals are all cooked fresh on the morning so can safely be reheated later if you’d rather have them for dinner…

Have you heard of Hastings Cargo?

The Covid 19 crisis brought many things into sharp focus. At the Beacon we adapted in the space of a few days by creating a delivery service for our Sunday roasts, absorbing the cost of packaging and delivery, with no idea of the viability of such a plan or its potential duration! Two months down the line we are still going strong, thanks to you.
We’re now looking forward to a time when some of you may wish to collect your food directly from us, but until then we will continue to deliver to all our customers.

This Sunday we are trialling a new delivery service for some very local addresses with Hastings Cargo electric bikes (ahem, not pictured above). These bikes have been proved to be an excellent way to help maintain the clean air quality and pollution levels we’ve seen during lockdown, and we at the Beacon want to help Hastings keep breathing clean air.  We hope you will support us in this, and we would welcome your feedback after Sunday’s service.

This weeks menu….

Our Starter Box this week contains a gorgeous Greek Salad; sweet vine cherry tomatoes, red peppers, red onions, black olives, cucumber, fresh herbs and Feta (vegan without), plus a wedge of the days fresh Sourdough. Great on the day or save it for lunch the next day!

Then….local roast chicken with herb stuffing or “Cheeseboard Tart” (v) (a mix of mature cheddar, Brie & Stilton plus onions in a handmade pastry case) or No Bake Spinach Cheesecake with a sunflower seed & sundried tomato base (ve).

All mains come with roasties (thats just standard) and a choice of seasonal vegetables & gravy, *unless* you order our Summer Special which swaps the veg & gravy for a wonderful medley of mixed green beans & asparagus plus a fresh aioli (garlic mayo)….Just let us know which way you sway when you place your order…

Dessert this week…

Choose between Pavlova (homemade meringue, whipped Northiam Dairy cream, summer berry compote and fresh berries) or a vegan Strawberry Tart. We love this season!

BYO (Build Your Own)

Our starter boards have been missed by some of our well loved customers so we are now creating starter boxes to be delivered alongside your Sunday lunch. Kick start your afternoon with a tasty grazing board or store it away in the fridge and have a ready made lunch for the next day. Each box comes with freshly made sourdough and a changing seasonal menu of dips or toppings to enjoy. Plus we able to add a few of our own home grown salads!

This week is a build your own Bruschetta; sweet cherry tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and fresh basil drizzle. We love grilling the bread and rubbing it with a little garlic first but either way, pile it high and enjoy!
